LAYTON, Utah — An auto-pedestrian collision Thursday night in Layton claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy.
According to Sgt. Gardiner of the Layton City Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of Main Street and Angel Street at 8:34 p.m.
A 71-year-old man was driving southbound on Main Street. According to authorities, the driver had a green light when he struck the teenager who was crossing the intersection against the light.
The victim suffered head and leg injuries. He was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police say there is no indication that the driver was impaired at the time of the auto-pedestrian collision.
However, weather, was likely, a factor in the accident.
“It was raining very hard,” Sgt. Gardiner said. “And very hard to see, too. It was a downpour.”
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
