20 tech start-ups target business needs using AI, others – The Punch

Facebook and tech innovation centre, Co-Creation Hub, have unveiled 20 technology start-ups that are solving some of the most pressing business and consumer challenges in Nigeria.

During the Innovation Showcase Week 2019, the two organisations unveiled the latest transformative technologies that would redefine industries to about 400 business and industry representatives.

Speaking at the media launch of the start-ups, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CcHUB, ‘Bosun Tijani, said, “We recognise the urgent need to accelerate innovation support to medium and large corporates which are positioned to secure significant gains for the economy through smart application of technology.

“ISW will close the gap between corporates and start-ups by being an unprecedented platform where industry leaders can experience and adopt home-grown innovations and solutions first hand,” he added.

The start-ups supported by Facebook’s start-up programme, FBStart Accelerator, and the CcHUB 2018 Incubation programme, displayed products that leveraged advanced technologies such as data science, Internet of Things, Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence across eight categories including healthcare, agriculture, mobility, energy, education, safety training and, security.

Exhibiting Artificial Intelligence and security-focused start-ups- Chiniki Guard, SayPeace, Identity Tech, E-Estates, DeepQuest AI and Insyt, demonstrated AI’s promising power.

Other products on display for the health and agriculture sectors included Vetsark, Doctoora, Plantheus, TrepLabs, Gricd and Truppr.

Co-founder, Plantheaus, Faith Atoyebi, described Plantheaus as an agric – tech company that uses an AI-enabled app to detect plant diseases, get real-time diagnosis, best management practices and chemicals to treat the diseases.

“We also have a platform for recommending chemicals to treat such diseases. We link farmers to agrochemicals providers for easy access to the chemicals,” she added.

Energy and mobility dedicated areas have Upnepa, Smart Electricity, Hydrolite, Cycles and Lara products on display and the virtual reality and safety training section showcased immersive solutions from Quadron VR, Kanji Drive and Project Move.

The Co-founder, Smart Electricity, Eze Livinus, described the smart electricity product as a wireless-based solution for charging mobile devices using magnetic induction technology.
