Last week we heard from a team of Barclays analyst that Apple will be removing 3D Touch on all 2019 iPhone models. However, it seems the pressure-sensitive tech inside the iPhone is here to stay. That’s right, Apple has confirmed that the 3D Touch will not be removed in iOS 13 in favor of Haptic Touch. Let’s dive in to see some more details on the matter.

3D Touch Will Not Be killed In iOS 13, Says Apple Executive

In the first iOS 13 beta build, we can not perform the 3D Touch operation. While Quick Action menus still pop up if you tap and hold, the pressure-sensitive element is absent. Turns out it’s a bug, not a removal of the feature entirely. A Twitter user emailed Apple’s Senior VP of Software Engineering, Craig Frederighi asking about the removal of the 3D Touch feature in iOS 13. The Apple executive replied that 3D Touch not working is a bug. Moreover, he also suggested that users try it in the forthcoming beta build.

Haptic Touch is a fancy name Apple gave to the press and hold operation in conjunction with the haptic feedback from the Taptic Engine. The notion of Apple ditching the 3D Touch was brought forward because the Quick Action menus were being invoked with a long press instead of applying pressure on the icons, giving room to the idea that the company might forego the operation.

The feature was first introduced with the iPhone 6s. It is a pressure-sensitive addition that makes use of the capacitive sensors embedded in the display. The sensors are capable of mapping sensitivity at different levels and bolster features such as Peek and Pop and more. Haptic Touch is assisted with a Taptic vibration. It seems 3D Touch is here to stay despite the rumor mill consistently coining the removal of the feature.
