IF there’s one body part that you don’t want going numb, it’s probably your penis.

But it happens more often than you think.

Don’t just ignore odd sensations in your nether regions

Usually, losing sensation down below is totally harmless and is caused by say, wearing too tight trousers or sitting in one position for too long, leading to pins and needles in your nether regions.

But it can also be a sign of a more serious issue which, if left unseen to, can leave you fighting for your manhood and your life.

So, here are the six main causes of penile numbness:

1. Prostate cancer

One in eight British blokes will get prostate cancer at some point in their life, and it kills over 10,000 men a year.

One sign of the prostate cancer is a numbness or tingling, which kicks in once a tumour has damaged the prostate gland.

The prostate gland is responsible for producing a fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation.

Prostate cancer can also cause ulcers and wounds to appear below the belt, causing your penis to, erm, rot away.

Other symptoms include needing to pee more often or more urgently, weak flow, difficulty in starting to pee and feeling as though you haven’t emptied your bladder.

2. Tight clothing

What you wear can have an effect on the health of your todger too.

If you’re a skinny jeans or extra snug brief wearer, you could be squeezing your bits a little too tightly in all that close-fit fabric.

If your clothes are too tight they can irritate the penis, cause itching and tingling.

The irritation can end up leaving your manhood feeling less sensitive than usual.

Plus the tighter the clothes the harder it is for blood to circulate, so you might actually be cutting off some blood flow, although that’s less likely.

3. Peyronie’s disease

Some men experience a condition called Peyronie’s disease, which causes the penis to become curved when it is erect.

It can also cause numbness through a build-up of scar tissue, which can block blood flow to the penis and numbness and a loss of size

It is perfectly normal for a penis to have a slight curve when it is standing to attention, but men with Peyronie’s disease will have a prominent curve that causes pain.

Peyronie’s disease can also lead to difficulty have sex and erectile dysfunction.

It mostly affects men over 40, according to the NHS, but it can affect anyone at any age.

4. Nerve problems

Any kind of nerve problem can cause tingling and numbness, downstairs is no different.

Men with diabetes, lupus, multiple sclerosis, vascular disease and cancer may experience nerve problems.

This might be tingling, a loss of sensation, a feeling of coldness or even sharp pain.

5. Sex injury

Possibly the two words most likely to send a shudder down any man’s back, sex can result in some pretty horrendous accidents.

There have been several medical reports of men “breaking” their penis during sex, including a 47-year-old man who fractured his penis during a night of passionate sex with his new girlfriend.

The patient, who was not named, felt a “snapping sensation” but claims he did not feel any symptoms until 12 hours later.

Incredibly, he was able to continue having sex and maintained his erection – despite the injury usually leaving men in agony.

6. Cycling

Peddling around on a hard, narrow seat can cause a load of discomfort for both men and women.

While a vagina might feel a little sore and bruised after a while, it’s probably a little worse for men who find their testicles, perineum and penis in the way.  The seat can also put pressure on the blood vessels and nerves down there, so numbness may occur.
