AAI and AAOCLAS to open perishable cargo centre in Guwahati airport


GUWAHATI: Airports Authority of India (AAI) and its cargo wing- AAICLAS will soon open its perishable cargo centre at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati which is being built by Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC).

A team of AAI, AAICLAS and AIDC and officials from state Government visited the site which is near its completion of the cargo centre on Saturday.

The team was led by Sanjeev Jindal, Regional Executive Director, AAI; Ramesh Kumar, Airport Director, LGBI Airport.

Airports Authority of India had leased 4050 SqM of land to M/S. AIDC for a period of seven years from 31.05.2017 for establishing Center for Perishable Cargo at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati with a Capacity to Handle 10000MT of Perishable Cargo with a Nominal Licence Fees of Rs.1/per annum with No Royalty, vide Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India directives with approval of Cabinet. After the expiry of 7 Years period, the allotment will made a fresh as per AAI policy in Vogue.

The foundation stone for this perishable cargo centre, being built by AIDC, was laid by Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal last year in January and had said that process has been started to sell Assam’s fruits, vegetables etc. at the markets of London, Singapore,Dubai and efforts are on to expand to the markets of Europe, America and South East Asia for transporting perishable agricultural produce of the state to different domestic and international locations.

AAI stated that considered as a big leap for air cargo hers, the AIDC developed CPC with approach road at cost of Rs. 1984.32 Lakhs (appx) which will be shortly dedicated to the Nation by end of March 2020. It will consists of State of the Art Facilities as a ONE STOP Facilitation Center to process the Perishable Cargo with Customs EDI Facility with further Forward & Backward Linkage project under TIES (Trade Infrastructure Export Scheme) by Positioning Airlines, Freight Forwarders, Customs Broker House.
