Aberg, who is at No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, shot 2-under on Friday after posting a 1-over 72 on Thursday. He earned his spot in this week’s PGA Tour event by winning the 2021 Jones Cup. He also competed in the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship in October. The cut line at The RSM was at 4-under after 36 holes of play.
Pereira is at 5-under (67-70) going into Saturday with a 9:47 a.m. tee time. A former Red Raider from the 2014-15 season, Pereira made six birdies in his second round. He is a rookie on the PGA Tour after earning a three-win promotion from the Korn Ferry Tour and also represented Chile during the Olympics.
Aberg and the No. 10-ranked Red Raiders will return to competition in February with their first tournament being the first week of the month in Hawaii. Tech finished as the runner-up in the Big 12 Match Play Tournament in its last fall tournament.
