Air India stops bookings till end of April


In an indication that lockdown may continue till the end of April, national carrier Air India has stopped booking till the end of this month. An airline official said that no bookings are being taken till April 30, 2020.

“The government has asked us not to take any bookings till the end of this month and we have stopped bookings,” said the official, who did not want to be identified.

However, private airlines continue to offer bookings for flights starting April 15, 2020.

Stopping of booking till the end of this month is an indication that the government may extend the lockdown period till the end of this month.

The government had earlier announced lockdown across the country for 21 days ending April 14, 2020.

Basis the earlier order, airlines had opened bookings from April 15, 2020.

In case airlines are not able to operate flights beyond April 15, 2020, passengers booked on those flights will not be provided cancellations but will be provided credit equal to the value of the their booked tickets, which can be used for travel at a later date.

The government had also indicated that the lockdown would only partially be lifted from April 15, 2020, to test the effectiveness in keeping the spread of Coronavirus under control.
