NMP Anthea Ong said the use of cutting-edge technology to keep Singapore safe is like a double-edge sword. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 6), she fears the same technology may hurt society’s mental well-being. She posed three key questions. What is the impact on society’s mental health living under the constant gaze of the authorities? How do we maintain a resilient and cohesive society with unbiased policing? How do we create a culture of respect for privacy and accountability with new surveillance and data analytics by government agencies?
