Ask for help, when you need it

Please introduce yourself and your startup ObjectBox to our readers!

Hi, my name is Vivien and I am the CEO of ObjectBox. ObjectBox empowers the edge with an on-device database, 10X faster than any alternative,  smaller than 1 MB, uniquely designed to sit directly on IoT and Mobile devices, allowing them to store and process data intelligently.

How did you get the idea to ObjectBox?

We both have a long history in the Mobile world, so we have face the challenges and struggles  developers face with data storage and synchronization ourselves. ObjectBox was a natural progression.

How difficult was the start and what challenges you had to overcome?

Based on our experience, if we wanted to do this, we needed to go all in. This was a tough decision. And after this followed a long period of investing our time and money to develop ObjectBox and find supporters. It took 2 years until we were accepted into Techstars London, which was a game changer for us.

Who is your target audience?

Anyone who develops a Mobile or an IoT application can benefit from using ObjectBox. We have users from all around the world and with all kinds of small and huge applications. We currently focus on Games and Entertainment in Mobile and Smart Cities, Smart Mobility and Industry 4.0 in IoT.

What is the USP of your startup?

The USP of ObjectBox is speed, size, and synchronisation. We solve the whole data journey for the developer out-of-the-box and offer supersimple APIs to use it in a delightful way.

Can you describe a typical workday of you?

The only constant in a typical workday for me is that there is no typical workday; every day is different, except there is always coffee.

Where do you see yourself and your startup ObjectBox in five years?

We are on a mission to bring joy and delight to the IoT and Mobile Industry, accelerating mobile development for app and IoT developers. We believe the future lies in the edge. In 5 years, we hope ObjectBox will be the de facto standard in Mobile and IoT to provide data where it is needed when it is needed for developers.

You are one of the top 150 European Startup Prize for Mobility. How its going on?

Well, we enjoy what we do and we are growing at a good pace. Feedback from the community is great and very encouraging. We have lots of good opportunities at the moment. Obviously, we still have a lot to do and it feels you can never be fast enough…

What 3 tips would you give other Start-up founders on the way?

Ask for help, when you need it.

Help others, when they ask.
