Big investment boosts Cork’s busy cyber-security sector – Cork Beo

Cork’s thriving tech and cyber-security sector has been given another major boost as Leeside company Paradyn launches a new network and security operations centre today.

Paradyn is one of a number of thriving Cork companies working in the sector charged with protecting businesses from criminal activity which is expected to cost cost businesses, governments and ordinary people up to €5 trillion a year globally by 2021.

Leeside is now home to the body charged with overseeing Ireland’s cyber security – Cyber Ireland – and Cork has become a major European hub for the InfoSec (or information security) sector with hundreds of specialists working for major international companies like Forcepoint, Johnson Controls and Dell EMC.

Now IT services company Paradyn, based in Little Island has launched its new network and security operations centre to help customers identify and manage security incidents in real-time.

The opening of the Paradyn TotalView Operations Centre at Little Island was brought forward by two months as a response to the significant increase in malicious threats being faced by businesses during COVID-19.

It’s the result of a €250,000 investment and over the next two years, the company expects to generate an additional €2.5 million revenue.

Rob Norton, Chief Technical Officer, Paradyn, said: “Cybercriminals are thriving in the COVID-19 remote working world and businesses are experiencing significant increases in remote access, phishing and social engineering threats.

“Criminals are targeting weak security on personal devices connected to company networks and we have seen several instances where they have targeted corporate and sensitive financial data, such as banking information, login credentials, as well as personal data.”

In addition to new advanced technologies, enhanced accreditations and the creation of five new security analyst roles, the investment also includes the full fit-out of a dedicated security and networks operation centre at Paradyn’s headquarters.
