In the recent past, the appetite for app-based food delivery services has risen significantly.

The business of delivering meals is experiencing a drastic change as new online platforms race to capture markets across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East.  Now the popular ride-hailing startup Bolt, also known as Uber rival has announced to join the food delivery business in an attempt to eliminate the friction connected with cooking and dining out.

For the uninitiated, Bolt is the fastest-growing transportation platform in Europe, offering ride-hailing and scooter-sharing service. In the latest development, the company has launched a food delivery service, dubbed as – Bolt Food in Tallinn.

This platform allows users to order their favourite foods from the most popular restaurants in Tallinn. Moving on, foods can be ordered through the brand new Bolt Food app (Android| iOS). It’s worth mentioning here that meals cannot be ordered from inside the existing Bolt ride-hailing/scooter app.

Launched on people’s request

Talking about the launch, the company in their blog said: “Food delivery has been a really popular request from a lot of people. We’ve built up a solid base of technology, personnel, and expertise on the back of our other products, so we felt that moving into this space was a logical step.”

According to the company, the Bolt Food delivery service will be launched in Latvia, Lithuania, and South Africa later this year. The food delivery market is getting more competitive as new players are emerging with time. Bolt Food’s intention to break into new markets is a significant step.

The online food delivery platform uses machine learning algorithms to estimate the time taken to prepare a meal and optimise routes for delivery, thereby reducing the delivery time by 20%.

Founded in 2000, Just Eat company provides convenient and easy access to a selection of delivery restaurants for online food orders. Based out of London, Just Eat operates with local teams in all their market countries. Last year, the company acquired Flyt, a restaurant software platform. Just-Eat’s parent company is Just-Eat Holdings Limited.
