ORIGINAL STORY: Chelsea have the opportunity to climb to first place in current league standings this afternoon, although it could be short-lived.
The London club currently have 27 points but are surpassed by Manchester City that have 29.
But because the Blues are playing their weekend game earlier than their Premier League rivals, they could surpass them, albeit for a few hours.
If Chelsea win today, Manchester City will need to beat or draw to Manchester United in order to climb back to the top of the Premier League.
Ahead of today’s clash with Everton, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has insisted both Man City and Liverpool are a “step ahead” of the club.
He said: ““From the first day, Manchester City and Liverpool are at the moment a step ahead of us.
“When I arrived, the gap from last season was 30 points.
“It is difficult to think you can recover this gap in one season or six months.
“We need to improve more, because we are doing we are doing well.
“We need to improve from a tactical point of view.”
Meanwhile Marco Silva’s Everton squad are currently in ninth place in current standings.
However, an away win today could launch the club into sixth.
