NEW YORK-A cop was punched and an unmarked NYPD car had its tires slashed as police tried to disperse a large rowdy crowd in Manhattan’s Washington Square Park, authorities said Sunday.
Cops moved in on a group raising hell in the park early Saturday but were met with resistance, officials said.
As cops asked the crowd to disperse around 3 a.m., one reveler punctured the passenger-side tire of an unmarked cop car before running away, police said.
Another man tried to intervene when he saw cops making an arrest. When cops turned to arrest him for obstructing governmental administration the man clocked one of them in the face and ran off, sources said.
The officer was left with a cut inside his mouth and on his hand, according to police.
Police did not know what prompted the crowd to from but said that it was not a protest.
Cops released surveillance images Sunday showing the suspects they say punched the cop and slashed the tire.
The suspect cops say punctured the tire was wearing a red shirt and black leather jacket and holding a “tallboy” can. The suspected cop puncher was wearing a blue denim jacket and black baseball hat.
Cops are asking the public’s help identifying them and tracking them down. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
