Deals this week: Alion Science and Technology, Bharat, Lockheed Martin


The US Department of Navy, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport has awarded a $794m contract to Alion Science and Technology for the development, construction and support of unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV) family of systems (FoS).

Alion will develop, fabricate, test and deliver prototype material solutions for the production of systems and subsystems.

In addition, Alion will provide solutions and technology to support advancement of the current and future UUV systems and subsystems.

Indian public sector company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has awarded a $777m contract to Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for the supply of air and missile defence (AMD) systems.

IAI will provide LRSAM AMD missile systems for integration on seven Indian Navy ships as part of the contract.

LRSAM is the naval version of the Barak 8 AMD system and is used by the Israel Navy and Indian Navy.

A consortium led by Lockheed Martin has been selected by the Canadian Government and Irving Shipbuilding to develop next-generation warships based on BAE Systems’ 26 Global Combat Ship frigate design.

BAE Systems, CAE, MDA, L3 Technologies, Ultra Electronics are also members of the consortium.

A total of 15 new-generation combat ships will be built at an estimated cost of C$55bn-C$60bn ($42.43bn-$46.28bn) to replace the current Iroquois-class destroyers and Halifax-class frigates.

The contract is expected to be finalised in March 2019, once Canadian authorities perform due diligence exercise on the final design.

Atos has secured a contract to provide new-generation LMN6 electromagnetic speed logs for installation on the French Navy’s ships.

Capable of making precision measurements, the new devices are compatible with the older versions. LMN6 complies with Information Systems Security (ISS) standards and meets the navy’s maintenance needs.

Installation will be performed on a number of French naval ships including La Fayette class frigates, Horizon-class frigates, surveillance frigates, Avisos, and mine hunters by the end of 2018.

The US Navy has awarded a one-year contract to StandardAero for the repair, overhaul and maintenance of the CFM56-7 engines on its P-8A multi-mission maritime aircraft.

StandardAero will also offer P-8A engine support services to the Government of Australia and other foreign military sales (FMS) customers. The company is a maintenance, repair and overhaul company based in Arizona, US.
