The two candidates first faced off in the Republican primary in March, separated by only 0.36% percentage points with Erickson slightly in the lead.

Along with Erickson and Rupp, Jefferson County Sheriff’s lieutenant Shaun Miller was also in the race, which kept either candidate from crossing the 50% threshold.

Erickson told The Enterprise in March that he hoped voters recognized his 28 years of experience in the county as well as his campaign’s priorities of drainage and accessibility and accountability to voters.

“I hope (voters) took away that I’m honest, earnest, dedicated and adhere to everything that I said that I aspire to do,” Rupp told The Enterprise in March.

Rupp also said that he and Erickson had become good friends during the initial campaign process and that they would support one another, regardless of results.

The winner of this race will face Democratic candidate Julia Rodriguez in the general election, Nov. 8.
