Electrocution case: Oyo says it is cooperating with police authorities


New Delhi: Oyo Hotels & Homes said it was cooperating with authorities after a 15 year-old was found dead in one of its Collection O branded hotels due to suspected electrocution.

“Our heart goes out to the deceased and his family. The matter is currently being investigated to determine the cause of this tragic incident. We are fully cooperating with the local police and will continue to do so during the entire process. Safety and security of guests and employees are of utmost priority at Oyo,” the spokesperson said in a written statement to ET.

Spokespersons at the hospitality chain also said that the police are investigating the case, with the hotel owner also cooperating with the authorities.

“While accidents happen in any place, Oyo like any other responsible corporate is extending full support per the laws of the land,” the spokesperson said.

The company’s statement follows multiple reports on the death of Priyanshu Kumar, a resident of Dehradun and a national level shooter, and who had travelled to Delhi to participate in a competition.

Kumar, along with his team-mates, was staying in a Collection O branded hotel in Pul Prahladpur and was found dead in the bathroom on Monday.

This is not the first time that the hospitality chain has come under the scanner.

In May last year, one of the company employees, was arrested for allegedly raping goes at one of its hotels in sector 45 Gurgaon, according to a report by the Times of India. The company’s spokespersons old ET that it continued to cooperate with police and provide “extensive information.”

“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident at Hotel Emaar Residency. We feel particularly saddened because our entire mission is to empower women and men by providing safe and quality living spaces everywhere. More importantly, we believe in treating people with compassion and respect,” the spokesperson said.

“As the matter remains under investigation, the concerned person has been suspended and we and the hotel partner have been cooperating with the police authorities. We also understand that the hotel partners have made all records available to them as requested,” the spokesperson added.
