Enjoy days out with the kids on the cheap with these great money-saving tips — plus win £50,000 on the Sun Savers Raffle

PLAY dates can leave parents praying for payday – with nearly a third splashing out £40 a time.

Two thirds also admit telling porkies to get out of inviting friends over. But here are ways of saving when it comes to your turn to host . . .

Enjoying a day out with the kids doesn't have to be as expensive as you think

Eat: Bella Italia has a £1 kids’ menu, valid when an adult buys a main. But you will need to register your details on its website to claim your voucher. There are options for different ages and all include a starter, main, dessert and unlimited squash. For more information, see Café Rouge, Prezzo and Las Iguanas offer similar deals.

Play: Camping is a great activity if your children are hosting a sleepover — and it doesn’t have to hit your wallet. Even if it is only in your back garden, kids will have fun and feel like they are on an adventure. You can teach them how to make a bonfire and put up a tent. Then come the ghost stories, stargazing and toasting marshmallows.

See: Pay less at Odeon cinemas with its family ticket — two adults and two children, or one adult and three children. Parents can also take advantage of the chain’s special price for under-12s.  If you collect Nectar points you can also use them towards your next day out at the cinema. Every 500 points is worth £2.50 towards your tickets at Vue cinemas.

Do: A trip to the farm keeps kids occupied — plus it’s educational. Many up and down the country offer deals for family trips, with cheap prices for children. I like Belmont Farm in North London, where children under one go free. It is £4 for one to three-year-olds and £5.50 up to 16. You can also buy a family ticket for £20. Find your nearest farm, and the best local offers, by searching with your postcode at
