Ritesh Agarwal | Oyo | Startup of the year (2018)

Oyo has emerged as the world’s third-largest hotel brand in terms of room count over the past one year. It has 850,000 rooms globally, on aggressive expansion in markets like China and Europe. Oyo has also launched in the US and Southeast Asia. The unicorn is projecting revenues of Rs 1,500 crore for the current fiscal, from previous year’s Rs 478 crore. It has expanded into co-working, student housing and long-stay managed rentals, among others.

Kunal Shah | Cred | Comeback Kid (2016)

Shah launched fintech startup Cred in November 2018. The new venture is targeting a completely different set of customers compared to Shah’s earlier startup mobile wallet platform FreeCharge, which he sold to Snapdeal in 2015. Cred wants to tap high-credit worthy customers who will use Cred to pay their credit card bills. It has raised $25 million from Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital, Ru-Net and others.

Mughilan Thiru Ramasamy | Skylark Drones | Best on campus (2018)

In June, Skylark Drones became one of a select few drone makers to receive certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for its micro drone. Skylark —one of the first to comply with the country’s no permission, no take-off (NP-NT) rule — is in talks to provide the NP-NT module to British and Chinese manufacturers who want to sell their drones in India.

Rohit Kumar Pandey | Sigtuple | Top innovator (2018)

AI-based medical diagnostics startup SigTuple raised $16 million in April this year, as part of its Series-C investment round led by Trusted Insight, a network of institutional investors. Its existing investors include Accel Partners, Pi Ventures and Flipkart cofounder Binny Bansal, who has joined the company’s board. Apart from blood samples, it plans to roll-out urine and semen analysis on its devices.
