COLORADO SPRINGS — A fatal accident closed Platte Ave. in Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department tweeted that westbound Platte was closed at Boulder St. due to a serious injury crash.

News 5 sent a crew to the scene and they later learned from police that the accident was fatal.

According to CSPD, a man was struck by a car that was traveling westbound on Platte Ave. The man died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle initially left the area, but returned after several minutes and is cooperating with police.

Police said they do not believe alcohol, drugs, or speed are a factor in the crash.

The road was reopened just before 4:30 p.m.
