Finance minsiter Arun Jaitley to be star speaker at ET Awards

He’s in charge of the world’s fastest-growing major economy, he oversaw India’s most farreaching tax reform, he’s the articulator-in-chief of many of his government’s most important policy positions, his elegantly combative interventions on everything from the growth debate to government-RBI relations, from finer points of law to the criticality of Aadhaar, make headlines and shape national conversation, he’s, as anyone can guess, finance minister Arun Jaitley — and he will be the star attraction at the Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence, 2018.

The finance minister will deliver the keynote address at ET Awards, speaking to an audience chock-a-block with India Inc’s most influential, who will be keen to hear and analyse his every word. Jaitley’s speech assumes special significance this year as it comes in the backdrop of several debates about the economy and economic and financial regulation. Plus, India is at the beginning of the election cycle that will culminate in general elections in 2019. So, what the FM says at the ET Awards is guaranteed to be a hugely significant articulation of the Narendra Modi government’s views on everything that really matters.

Aside of the prime minister himself, there’s no better candidate in this ruling dispensation for making the government’s case. Arun Jaitley is the minister who you always know will cut through the clutter and give you sharp insights, whether on the state of the economy or on the fallout of critical Supreme Court judgements on policy matters, whether on the political economy of the Modi government’s huge welfare push or on ease of doing business, whether on national politics or global markets.

The FM’s address, preceded by interactive sessions with three of his key Cabinet colleagues — Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman — will again, like every year, make ET Awards the premier forum for high-impact policy conversations.

Be there, on November 17, in Mumbai.
