Footballers are no longer the most likely to be caught speeding – find out which profession has taken over the top of the table

LOCKSMITHS have been convicted of speeding offences the most out of all drivers on UK roads this year.

The occupation took the unwanted title over from professional footballers, who were named as the worst speeders in 2017.

As uncommon as the profession may seem, offshore rig workers are the second most likely to pick up a speeding ticket, according new research by car insurer Admiral.

This was followed by creative directors, sports coaches/trainers and chairpersons.

Unsurprisingly, insurance clerks were found to be the least likely to have a speeding conviction.

Credit managers, dressmakers, supermarket assistants and substitute teachers complete the top five.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz GLE was listed as the car model most likely to be caught speeding.

And over two thirds of the convictions were listed on Admiral by male drivers.

Alarm fitters have been convicted the most for using their mobile phone behind the wheel, with lecturers the least likely.

Entertainers also had the most traffic signal misdemeanours, such as jumping a red light and not stopping at a stop sign.

Sabine Williams, Admiral Head of Motors, said: “Motoring convictions carry a fine as well as points on the license, and in addition will lead to higher insurance premiums.

“Statistics show that those who have convictions or penalty points are more likely to be involved in an accident than those who have not, and also make higher value claims than others.

“More importantly failing to adhere to the rules of the road is dangerous to the driver and other individuals using the road.

“We’d urge drivers to think twice before flouting the rules and doing something that could cause physical and financial harm.”
