Former Melrose 1st XV rugby player Joe Helps is training to become a professional surveyor with Graham + Sibbald as the property firm becomes a sponsor of Super6 franchise team Southern Knights.
Helps joined Graham + Sibbald in 2016 and is a commercial agent enrolled on his RICS APC while completing his final year BSc Real Estate Management degree with the University College of Estate Management.
His old team will compete as Southern Knights in the FOSROC Super 6 semi-professional competition for top club sides which kicks off this November.
Graham + Sibbald supports young people with its “earn as you learn” scheme and its Rising Star programme. Last year, the firm selected Scottish diving star Grace Reid as its latest recruit to the Rising Star programme ahead of Grace competing in the European Championships at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.
Les McAndrew, Graham + Sibbald’s senior partner, said: “We like to bring a diverse group of young people into and through the firm including from the sports world. As he was on the rugby field, Joe has been a tremendous asset to the team at Graham + Sibbald and we’re delighted to be supporting his former team who are now playing under the Southern Knights brand for the inaugural Super6 season.”
Helps said: “It’s great to see the kind of enabling support Graham + Sibbald offers for people coming into the industry and we’re all excited about the Southern Knights sponsorship and the season ahead.”
