Global Dialogue CSIS 2019 to feature Sophia the robot – The Jakarta Post – Jakarta Post


Humanoid robot Sophia will attend the 2019 Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Global Dialogue, to be held from Sept. 16 to 17 at Hotel Borobudur Jakarta in Central Jakarta.

Created by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics, Sophia is expected to be featured in several sessions. According to the event’s official website, the artificially intelligent (AI) robot will be present during the opening session of the conference on the first day and later will have a dialogue with the audience.

Activated in April 2015, Sophia has appeared in several events, discussions and TV shows, including The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning Britain and 60 Minutes with Charlie Rose. It is also the first robot to receive full Saudi Arabian citizenship.

The 2019 CSIS Global Dialogue is being held by the CSIS and the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) in partnership with the University of Prasetiya Mulya and start-up accelerator GK Plug and Play Indonesia. This year’s event focuses on the theme of “Harnessing Frontier Technologies: Redesigning National, Regional and Global Architecture”. 

The event will also feature speakers such as Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati; veteran activist and former co-chair of the PECC Jusuf Wanandi; Google’s head of content and AI for Asia Pacific Jake Lucchi; group chairman of Li & Fung Victor Fung; and professor of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, Richard Baldwin.
