Govt will procure more stock, Piyush Goyal assures onion farmers

Union minister for commerce and consumer affairs Piyush Goyal on Tuesday told onion farmers not to worry about the export curbs on the vegetable, saying the government will purchase an additional 200,000 tonnes of onions for the buffer stock at a “historically high” price of ₹2,410 per quintal to guard their interests. He said the Nafed and the NCCF will set up procurement centres at all onion producing areas in Maharashtra, MP and other states to ensure that the farmers get a good price for their produce.
