HO, HO, WOAH – the cost of Christmas presents can seriously add up.
With just 98 days until Crimbo, a recent study by Amazon found fewer than one in three of us has started planning our festive gift-giving.
But spreading the cost now could help you save later . . .
NOT A PLOT TO DO: Make a list of loved ones that you’re buying for and then set yourself a budget, as well as pencilling a specific amount next to each person.
You’ll then be able to plan possible ideas ready for the pre-Christmas sales — or stash any savvy finds you spot in the end-of-summer sales now. The earlier you start, the more dosh you can save.
HIT THE (BOOT) SALES: Many car boot sales stop for the winter break, so now is the time to hit the last ones of the year. I’ve found unopened gift sets, silk scarves and vintage jewellery presents.
FEELING CRAFTY? Handmade gifts and stocking fillers can save lots of money — but do take time to put together.
If you start now, by planning and picking up the materials you need you can save time and money on shop-bought options. If someone is into painting, start collecting sketchpads, paints and pens and put them together as a bundle. Baking mix jars are also a nice gift — fill a jar in layers of correctly weighed out dry ingredients and include a scroll with the full recipe. You can make several at the same time.
BULK BUY: Consider collecting items in bulk now when it comes to your stocking fillers, giving you more time to hunt down the best prices.
Online marketplace Etsy is full of quirky, handmade gifts, and has a designated Bulk Gifts section full of deals on multibuy items.
TRACK YOUR CASHBACK: Know what you want to buy? Use sites like Quidco.com to find the online retailer you’re buying from and click through to the shop.
Cashback can take time to appear, so buy now. Currently nab 10 per cent off top beauty brand Benefit purchases, via TopCashback.co.uk.
