Harding History: April 8 – Berdon’s Blasts, Tennis Tops Tech, MLB Track Star – Harding University Athletics

The following events happened on April 8 in Harding sports history:


  • April 8, 2014 – Amanda Berdon hit two home runs in the same game for the second of three times in her career with two homers in a 4-3 victory over Arkansas Tech. Berdon is the only Harding player with multiple two-HR games.

Women’s Tennis

  • April 8, 2010 – Harding defeated Arkansas Tech 8-1 in Russellville to improve to 21-3 overall and 5-0 in the Gulf South Conference. The Lady Bisons concluded the 2009-10 season at 23-7 with Ling Chan and Lola Pardo earning First Team All-GSC honors.

Men’s Track

  • April 8, 2003 – Burt Green ran the 100 meters in 10.69 at a meet hosted by Harding. Green was also a member of the football team and came to Harding after playing Major League Baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. Green ranks sixth on Harding’s career top 10 performers list in the 100 meters.

Football Box Score of the Day

  • On Oct. 18, 1975, Allen Grieb rushed for 166 yards on 31 carries and Robert Akins tied a school record with three interceptions to lead Harding to a 20-9 victory over Arkansas Tech on a fair and mild evening in Russellville. Harding led 14-9 after a Tech touchdown early in the fourth quarter, but a 4-yard TD run by Harding quarterback Cam Prock with 2:28 left sealed the win for the Bisons.
