The SP90 Stradale is Ferrari’s first-ever hybrid plug-in model. It isn’t the first step into the world of electric cars as the LaFerrari took the reign for that. However, the difference is that the LaFerrari wasn’t a PHEV model.

Ferrari’s 2022 SF90 can drive on pure electric as well as petrol. The V8 engine doesn’t make much noise when you press the start button. This is thanks to its super quiet electric motor, which can drive for 15 miles on its own. Although 15 miles isn’t a lot of coverage, it is more than any other Ferrari can offer.

We just love that Ferrari is stepping up and entering the electric vehicle market. It is more than capable of driving on electricity alone for short commutes, which can later use its petrol motor or recharge for more electric power and mileage.

It is important to note that the electric-only power comes from the front wheels. This switch can happen at speeds of up to 84mph. The front motors disengage at speeds of more than 130 mph, but that doesn’t result in a drop in output. Instead, the 8kWh lithium-ion battery’s peak 162kW of current flow transmits entirely to the rear motor.

For drivers that seek speed, this can easily be achievable by switching to its petrol engine, which can boast incredible speeds of 124 mph within 6.7 seconds. Its top speed is 211 mph, which is more than enough to satisfy the needs of a supercar driver.

Being a hybrid model, customers might expect the ride to be shy of power. However, that isn’t Ferrari’s style. The 2020 Ferrari SF90 can boast up to 986 bhp, with the V8 engine making up 770 of that.

The Touch-Sensitive Driving Screen

A key feature of all modern Ferrari models is the drive-sharpening manettino dial, which offers wet, sport, race, traction control off, and stability control off dynamic modes. However, the SF90 offers an all-new touch-sensitive driving screen, which sits next to the steering wheel. This is to enable the driver to easily switch between motors and easily get what they want out of their drive.

This touch screen is the e-manettino, which allows the driver to cycles between e-Drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify modes. The last of which prioritizes all-out performance over battery charging.

What’s more, is that the steering abilities do not stop there. The touch screen panel is cool and what’s even greater is that the SF90 is more than capable of steering efficiently around tight corners and holding up well on bumpy roads. The body of the ride is primarily aluminum, yet the rear is carbon fiber, which reduces its weight. It is fairly heavy, weighing 3,460 lbs dry. Yet, the heaviness of the car doesn’t affect its control. In fact, the steering is assumably better than the F8.

It has a natural ability to turn into corners impressively, and although Race mode minimizes slip, the SF90 remains remarkably friendly with the traction control off. Furthermore, the front axle works to neutralize yaw angles in a way that feels ridiculously easy in such a car.
