High-end chef to take over east end pub's kitchen

The Gate bar in Glasgow is to invite well-known chefs to guest in its kitchen in a series of street food-style ‘Dark Kitchen takeovers’.

Yu Ca Taco is first up from July 25-26, serving Mexican-style food at the pub opposite the Barrowland which opened last year.

Baked Pizza will follow from July 30 to August 1 with its Italian focaccia and arancini, then Craig Grozier of high-end private dining firm Fallachan will take over with his new Fallachan Cart venture from August 6-22.

From August 6-8, Fallachan Cart will collaborate with JARRED and JFC chef James Murray to produce a gourmet fried chicken set menu using premium, organic ingredients and foraged trimmings.

From August 13-15 it will be Fallachan Cart Cooks Bao Buns and from August 20-22, Fallachan Cart Cooks Surprise.

Grozier established Fallachan in 2012 to produce bespoke menus for private parties and events, cooking food influenced by his work all over the world.

He said: “Whilst in lockdown, I spent a lot of time cooking the food I missed from the restaurants I could not go to that were closed, and the great street food that I have eaten on my yearly travels around the globe with Fallachan.

“Along the way, I have been developing and logging these recipes, starting Fallachan Cart and collaborating with The Gate will now give us the opportunity to share these with you all.”

Andy Gemmell, owner of The Gate said: “I have known Craig for a long time and have watched him perfect his craft over the years. He’s an incredible chef and by him taking on street food I know that it’s going to be another level. Combine that with some of the chefs that he is bringing in to collaborate with and that’s a recipe for delicious food.”
