A little stone mission founded in 1941 in Highland held its 78th annual fiesta Saturday, Aug. 24, with mariachis, tamales, colorful paper flowers and more.

Volunteers have been preparing for months for St. John Bosco Mission’s event, which included performances by local youth dance group Folklorico Cultural, Viva Tecalitlan Mariachi Band, young church members performing fiesta dances, and entertainer Larry Tarin and the Flamingos.

Organizers tried to mimic celebrations of days gone by, decorating with pinatas, sombreros, zarapes and flowers.

In a news release Tina Padilla-Zavala said organizers believe the event is the “most original remaining fiesta in the Diocese of San Bernardino.”
