Homeland security comes knocking on LTI's US door
L&T Infotech’s office in the United States was raided by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Wednesday. The raid took place at LTI’s office in Edison, New Jersey.

The company is fully cooperating with the authorities and does not have further information to provide, L&T Infotech (LTI) said in a regulatory filing to the BSE on Thursday.

According to a local news report, agents from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and DHS were part of the operation. No one was arrested, it said.

LTI is already under investigation by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), according to a lawsuit filed in October by two former employees.

The lawsuit has alleged that the firm submits fraudulent letters with visa applications to maximise the number of South Asians it hires in the US. The suit describes how the company would send a letter to the US government, supposedly from a client, attesting to the need for certain employees to work there.

The letters are, however, drafted and signed by LTI, according to the complaint. According to the lawsuit, the company allegedly submitted fake invitation letters purportedly signed by Apple, its client.

The firm was questioned by the USCIS for document discrepancies and procedural lapses with respect to Apple, according to a news report by the Times of India earlier in the year. LTI did not respond to the TOI report at the time.
