How to link Aadhaar card to bank account

The process to link your bank account with Aadhaar is more or less similar for most banks. Once the process is initiated, the bank takes your consent and will get your Aadhaar linked with your bank account.

Banks usually provide you four different options to link your bank account with Aadhaar. It can be done either through the online mode, offline mode, via SMS, through the respective bank’s ATM. A bank may offer one or more of these methods. There are some banks which offer the interactive voice response (IVR) facility which can be accessed through one’s mobile phone.

Here are 5 ways to link your bank account with Aadhaar:

1. Net banking

1. Login into your Net banking account through a desktop/laptop or mobile banking by entering your user ID and password.

2. Click on the ‘View/update Aadhaar card details’ in your online banking account.

3. Enter the Aadhaar number in the box specified for the purpose along with other information required for verification.

4. You need to self-verify the entered information and confirm it by clicking on the ‘Submit’ button.

5. The bank will take time to validate and verify the linking process. Once the process is done successfully, you will receive a confirmation message from the bank on your registered mobile number.

2. Bank branch

By visiting the bank’s branch, you can get your Aadhaar linked with your bank account. Here is how:

1. Get the ‘bank account Aadhaar linking form’ from the nearest bank branch. Or, you can also download the form from the respective bank’s website.

2. Fill the form mentioning all the information including your bank account number and 12-digit Aadhaar number.

3. Submit the form along with a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar card. (For verification purpose, you also need to show the original Aadhaar card to the bank official)

4. The bank will take a few days to process the linking of your bank account and Aadhaar number.

5. Once the linking is done successfully, you will receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number.

3. SMS

The account holders can also get their Aadhaar linked with their bank account via SMS. However, only a few banks provide this facility.

1. You need to send a text message in this format – UID <space> 12-digit Aadhaar number <space> Bank account number — and send it to a specific number. For example, SBI customers can send this message to 567676. This number differs from bank to bank. You need to check on their website or call their customer care to know this ‘specific number’.

2. The SMS has to be sent through your registered mobile number, that is, the number from which you send the SMS has to be pre-registered with the bank.

3. You will receive a message stating that your request to link your bank account with Aadhaar has been accepted and is being processed.

4. The bank will validate the Aadhaar details provided with UIDAI.

5. Once this is done, you will receive a confirmation message stating that your request to link your bank account with Aadhaar has been successfully completed.

4. ATM

1. Visit the bank’s nearest ATM. Swipe your debit card and enter your 4-digit PIN.

2. You can view several options on the ATM. Select the ‘Services’ option.

3. Select the ‘Registrations’ option and tap on the Aadhaar Registration option.

4. Select the account (savings or current) type, enter the Aadhaar number and click ‘Ok’.

5. Once the process is done successfully, you will get a confirmation message on your registered mobile number.

5. Mobile phone

Many banks provide the facility to link Aadhaar with a bank account through IVR using your mobile phone.

1. You have to call a specific number. All banks have different numbers for this purpose.

2. If your bank supports the Aadhaar linking facility through mobile phone via IVR, give a missed call to that number provided to you by the bank.

3. Your bank will call you back where you can select options from the IVR and get your Aadhaar seeding processed further.

4. The bank’s IVR will ask you to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and then to confirm it.

5. Once it is done, you will receive a confirmation message that your Aadhaar has been linked with your account.
