IHGF-Delhi Fair Autumn 2018 expected to see increased buyer participation this year: EPCH


The 46th edition of the IHGFDelhi Fair Autumn 2018 scheduled to be held from Oct 14 – 18 at Greater Noida is expected to attract overseas buyers from 110 countries. A host of wholesalers, distributors, departmental stores, retailers, brand owners and buying houses will be among those visiting as buyers.

Over 3200 manufacturers and exhibitors across the country will showcase more than 2000 product lines, designs, styles, raw material base and concepts to the overseas buyers, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) said.

Some major departmental stores that have already confirmed their visit include names from Germany, USA, UK, UAE and others. This year buyers from countries such as Benin, Fiji, Latvia, Rwanda and Dominican Republic will also be marking their present at the fair to source their requirement.

Speaking at the press meet, Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director said that the IHGF – Delhi fair has played a vital role in increasing exports of handicrafts from the country. “The handicrafts exports was to the tune of Rs. 751.67 crores in 1993-94 when the fair was initiated. During the year 2017-18, it was Rs 23,029.36 crores. However, the exports of handicrafts during first six months of the current financial year has been Rs. 12,953.25 crores with overall increase of 6.58% in rupee terms over the previous year,” he said.

The fair boasts of housing the most extensive range of handcrafted products in a range of categories such as home textiles, furnishings, carpets, fashion jewellery and many others. The focus will be on a range of eco friendly products made out of base material like wood, metal, glass, cane and bamboo, textiles made of natural fibers, wool, silk, jute, coir, stone, leather, terracotta, lac and dry flowers. The products on display are handcrafted and cater to low, middle income as well as top end customers.
