Question
Three years ago when first renting my flat I was given a copy of a gas boiler check report.
I have reminded the landlord that the boiler had not been re-inspected since and he said it was done whilst I was on holiday but has not given me a copy of the report.
How can I find out if the boiler has been checked and who did the work?
How to get your home ready for winter
Answer
The ‘Gas Safety Regulations 1998’ requires annual safety checks. The check is only legally valid if carried out by a registered ‘GasSafe’ engineer.
Non-compliance by a landlord invites a fine or imprisonment. If the landlord persists in avoiding your request or you doubt the validity of a certificate contact the Health & Safety Executive at hse.gov.uk
