Wilko told The Sun that all 416 of its stores are currently open, although they will all close at 5pm Monday to Saturday.

This is so workers have extra time to clean and replenish stock.

The latest government advice states you should only visit a shop if you’re picking up essentials, such as food and medicines.

You should also think twice about buying anything that isn’t critical if you’re struggling financially due to coronavirus.

What time are Wilko shops open?

Wilko opening times vary across the UK so you’ll need to use its online store finder to see when your nearest shop is open.

But all stores will now close at 5pm from Monday to Saturday to allow extra time for cleaning and replenishing.

Before the coronavirus epidemic, some shops would close as late as 8pm.

Sunday closing times will remain the same.

All Wilko stores have also temporarily removed their pick and mix sweet stands.

The retailer hasn’t said when it expects to bring them back into shops.

Jerome Saint-Marc, chief executive of Wilko, said: “For everyone’s peace of mind we’re doing everything possible to protect both our team members and customers when you shop with us.

“We’re here to help but kindly ask that you’re kind to everyone, maintain a safe distance, follow any instructions and pay by card as much as possible.”

What items is Wilko limiting?

WILKO says it’s limiting quantities on the following items, although it doesn’t say what they’re limited to so it may vary by store:

  • Children’s medicine
  • Cleaning and antibacterial products
  • Cough and cold products
  • Hand sanitisers, soap and handwash
  • Thermometers
  • Tissues and wipes
  • Toilet rolls

Wilko is still accepting cash payments but asks customers to use cards, preferably contactless, when possible.

You’re also limited on how many of certain products you can buy – see the full list above.

Can I still order from Wilko online?

Yes, Wilko’s website is still up and running, but shoppers may experience delays to their home delivery orders.

It’s also reduced its delivery options and is now only offering standard delivery.

That means customers won’t be able to use its next-day delivery service.

Wilko charges £5 for standard delivery if you spend under £30.

Orders over this amount are free.

Wilko has temporarily suspended its click and collect service.
