Israel to set up cleantech innovation lab for sustainability startups – Xinhua | English.news.cn – Xinhua

JERUSALEM, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) — Israel will set up a cleantech innovation laboratory dealing with environmental protection and sustainability, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MoEP) reported Sunday.

The lab project is led by Israel’s MoEP, Ministry of Economy and the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA), at a cost of 14 million new shekels (4 million U.S. dollars).

The purpose of the lab, to be established in the northern city of Haifa, is to encourage the setup of Israeli startup companies in these fields, helping them develop and integrate in the global market.

The ESIL, a partnership between Bnnovation (Innovation platform of Israel’s oil refining company Bazan Group), EDF Renewables (a subsidiary of Electricite de France company) and British chemical company Johnson Matthey, is chosed to operate the laboratory.

Thus, the ESIL will help entrepreneurs and startups to reach proof of feasibility, with an emphasis on developing clean, non-fossil-based innovative technologies.

To do this, the ESIL will allow access to unique technological infrastructure, experimental facilities, and marketing channels and expertise, helping technological ideas to become economically valuable products.

“This is another step in realizing our plan to make Israel a world power in developing environmental technologies,” said Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection Zeev Elkin.
