UK prime minister Boris Johnson will meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Thursday to discuss Brexit and other matters, the Elysée palace announced on Monday.

Mr Johnson is also meeting German chancellor Angela Merkel this week as the UK government prepares to take the country out of the EU on October 31 with or without a deal with the 27 other EU member states.

The Elysée said Messrs Macron and Johnson would have a working lunch to discuss Brexit, as well as bilateral France-UK ties and Iran ahead of the G7 summit of big democracies in Biarritz at the weekend.

Mr Macron will also have a separate meeting with Greek prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
