Kiran Mazumdar Shaw wins EY Entrepreneur of the year award


MUMBAI: Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairperson and managing director of Bengaluru based biopharmaceutical company Biocon, on Wednesday won EY Entrepreneur of the year award for innovation and has enabled affordable, life-saving medicines.

Shaw, will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award (WEOY) in Monte Carlo in June where winners from across the world would join her.

Adi Godrej, chairman of Godrej Group was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 21st edition of EOY Awards in India.

There were nine other categories where some of the most prominent entrepreneurs won EOY Awards. Falguni Nayar, founder and CEO, Nykaa E-Retail won in the start-up category, Tuhin Parikh senior managing director, real estate, Blackstone India was awarded transformational impact person of the year, Arun Bharat Ram, chairman, SRF won in the manufacturing category and K. B. S. Anand, managing director and CEO of Asian Paints was named entrepreneurial CEO.

“The winners of this year come from both long-established and new-age businesses, but what is common to them is how they have transformed their companies or reimagined the entire sector by taking bold bets, and using technology and innovation to delight their customers. These inspiring entrepreneurs have pursued a strong purpose and focused on creating long-term value for all stakeholders,” said Rajiv Memani, chairman, EY India.

The winners, comprised of unicorns and market disruptors and boasted a revenue of about Rs 1,00,000 crore and employ over 1,15,000 people worldwide. Winners were selected by an eight member jury panel headed by Uday Kotak, managing director and CEO, Kotak Mahindra Bank.
