Freshman Giana LaCedra tossed a 6-hit shutout with 5 strikeouts while pitching Lowell to a 1-0 victory over Dracut in a Merrimack Valley Conference softball game.
Dracut senior pitcher Ryley White notched 11 strikeouts with no walks in this duel between two of the top pitchers in the MVC.
LOWELL 1, DRACUT 0 — Laura Heslin led the way on offense for Lowell, going 2-for-2 at the plate while driving in the winning RBI.
Molly Barrett and Mayson Soucy had 1 hit each for Lowell (18-0).
Nadia Saari and Amy Lupien had 2 hits each for Dracut. White and Morgan Keefe added 1 hit each for the Middies.
LITTLETON 14, AYER SHIRLEY 2 — LITTLETON 14, AYER SHIRLEY 2 Kasey Ricard only allowed 2 hits and struck out 8 while earning the win in the circle. Ricard helped her own cause at the plate by belting a 3-run home run.
Hannah Cochran chipped in with 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Tigers (14-0).
Evie Tule notched 1 hit and 3 RBI, while Calean Janhle tallied 2 hits and 2 RBI.
Molly Magnette banged out 3 hits and drove in 1 run.
ARLINGTON CATHOLIC 13, SHAWSHEEN 0 — Shawsheen Tech’s hopes for a state tournament berth came crashing down with the loss.
The Rams hit the ball hard multiple times, but couldn’t get anything to fall. Grace Clark and Sam Wareham had the only hits for Shawsheen (6-10, 3-6 CAC). Sandra Watne struck out 3 batters, surrendered 10 hits, walked 1 and gave up 10 earned runs.
WILMINGTON 1, LOWELL CATHOLIC 0 — Ally Moran retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve her shutout in a narrow non-league win over Lowell Catholic.
Both teams were limited to 3 hits. In the top of the first inning, Ashley Crawford doubled. She advanced to third and eventually scored on a passed ball to score the game’s lone run.
Chase Andersen made two excellent plays at third base and was a vital part of a combination play in the bottom of the sixth that helped preserve the victory for Wilmington.
NORTH MIDDLESEX 16, BROMFIELD 2 — Dani Croft went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI to power the Patriots to the lopsided win.
Rachel Brouillette went 3-for-3 and drove in 2 runs for North Middlesex (5-8), which banged out 16 hits. Maggie Hackler doubled and had 2 RBI, while Emily Hyde also collected 2 RBI.
JOHN STARK 9, PELHAM 1 — Lanna Pierce knocked in Pelham’s lone run during the home defeat.
Pelham turned three double plays in the first three innings. Megan Molettieri played well in right field. Pelham finishes the regular season 8-8 and will play a preliminary round playoff game Wednesday at 4 p.m.
GROTON-DUNSTABLE SWEPT — The Crusaders were swept in Ashburnham by 14-0 and 13-1 scores.
In the opener, Groton-Dunstable’s lone hit came off the bat of Whitney Ellis, who went 1-for-2.
In the second game, Ellis again went 1-for-2 with a double and run scored. Erin Jussaume laced an RBI single.
DRACUT 7, WAYLAND 0 — Patrick Crowley fired a 1-hit shutout and notched 3 strikeouts with no walks as Dracut blanked Wayland in a non-league game. Crowley chipped in at the plate with 2 hits.
Sean McMeniman paced Dracut’s offense with 2 hits and 2 RBI.
Kyle Cox and Brad Keefe checked in with 2 hits and 1 RBI apiece, while Mike Patterson had a hit and drove in a pair of runs for the Middies, who clinched a state tournament berth with the win.
Danny Robichaud, Jared Fahey (1 RBI) and John Cormier had 1 hit each.
LOWELL 6, ACTON-BOXBORO 5 — It took nine innings, but host Lowell pulled out the thrilling non-league victory at Stoklosa/Alumni Field.
Thomas Hassett laced the game-winning single. Ray Velazquez added 2 hits and an RBI, while Matt Asselin ripped 2 hits and Ben Asselin added a hit.
Corin Laliberty earned the win, striking out 3 over his 3 innings.
GROTON-DUNSTABLE SWEEPS OAKMONT — Groton-Dunstable beat Oakmont, 2-0, 9-0, in a Midland-Wachusett League doubleheader.
In Game 1, Nate Glencoss fired a 4-hit shutout with 4 strikeouts.
Kasey Griffiths had 2 hits with 1 run scored, while Jared Whitby had 1 hit and 1 RBI for the Crusaders.
Joe O’Malley smacked a double, and Isaac Zhang knocked in 1 run.
In Game 2, Riley Curran started on the mound and pitched 4 shutout innings, with 3 strikeouts, while earning the win.
Doug Tompkins had 1 hit, 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Glencross and Zhang had 1 hit and scored 2 run each. Griffiths had 1 hit and scored 1 run for G-D (11-5).
CHELMSFORD 8, CONCORD-CARLISLE 0 — Pitchers Graham Jeffries, Jack Beauchesne and Anthony Hubbard combined on a 5-hit shutout as the Lions blanked Concord-Carlisle in a non-league game.
Chad Lizine and Carl Erickson had 2 hits each.
Patrick Hughes, Mike Vecchione and Chris Rabias played well defensively for Chelmsford (13-6).
METHUEN 5, TEWKSBURY 4 — Methuen edged Tewksbury in a game that was part of the Hillie Classic Tournament in Haverhill.
Kyle Zervas belted a 2-run home run for Tewksbury. Ryne Rametta (double) and Matt Perron had 2 hits each. Riley Frost pitched well for the Redmen.
SWAMPSCOTT 11, GREATER LOWELL 0 — Swampscott beat Greater Lowell Tech in a non-league game.
Eric Airosus, Cole Blades, Connor Lagasse and Ryan Hickey had 1 hit each for Greater Lowell.
AYER SHIRLEY 6, LITTLETON 2 — Ayer Shirley scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally past visiting Littleton.
Brandon Consalvo laced an RBI double and finished with 2 hits for the Panthers (9-8). Ian Keene scored a pair of runs.
Littleton dipped to 4-11.
HUDSON 9, NORTH MIDDLESEX 6 — Despite an outstanding day at the plate from Pat Aubuchon, the Patriots fell in Townsend.
Aubuchon went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI. North Middlesex (9-9), which banged out 11 hits, fell into a 8-0 hole after just half an inning and couldn’t recover.
