Lazard adds new responsibilities for top French banker Pigasse

PARIS, May 17 (Reuters) – Financial advisory firm Lazard has added on some new responsibilities for Matthieu Pigasse, who heads Lazard’s French business and is one of Paris’ most high-profile bankers.

Lazard said on Friday Pigasse, who is chairman and CEO of Lazard France, would also become Lazard’s global head of banking and deputy chief executive of its financial advisory arm.

Pigasse will work with Lazard Chairman and CEO Kenneth M. Jacobs, and Peter R. Orszag, incoming CEO of Lazard’s ‘Financial Advisory’ division, to strengthen the firm’s performance.

“Matthieu’s new role will substantially elevate our work in serving clients across continental Europe and beyond, and reinforce Lazard as the world’s pre-eminent independent advisory firm,” said Orszag in a statement.

Pigasse is well-known in Paris business and media circles, via his personal shareholding in Le Monde newspaper and his business interests in Radio Nova and Les Inrockuptibles magazine.

Last month, Lazard reported higher-than-expected quarterly profits, as its M&A advisory business got a boost from a string of big-ticket deals in the United States. (Reporting by Sudip Kar-Gupta and Jean-Michel Belot; Editing by Mark Potter)
