Leaked: Is eBay Rolling out Cryptocurrency Payments? – Coinfomania

U.S based eCommerce giant, eBay, may soon roll out cryptocurrency as a payments option for its users according to ads leaked on Twitter.

The banners purportedly from the ongoing Consensus event in New York feature ad texts alongside the eBay logo with the messages reading,

“Virtual Currency. It’s happening on eBay”, and “Reach 179 million active buyers in the world’s most active marketplace”.

While the message alone is enough that spark rumours that the eCommerce company will soon introduce cryptocurrencies as a payment option for merchants, the fact that the firm is also one of the hosts for one of the biggest crypto event, only adds fuel to the fire.

Also, eBay already has a page for users selling crypto-related items including cryptocurrencies!

Speculations on eBay and Cryptocurrency

As you may already realize, the nature of the leaked advertisement does not precisely reveal what eBay plans to do with “virtual currency.”

The only thing that is known at this point is that it is “happening,” which could mean that the platform will launch its virtual currency, probably an eBayCoin like Facebook and JPMorgan has on the cards.

It could also be in the form of the recent IOTA and Jaguar partnership, which when applied to the eBay scenario would mean that the platform starts accepting only one type of cryptocurrency developed by a project it chooses.

The other option which would no doubt create the most excitement in the industry is that eBay will allow users to buy and sell on its platform using a variety of cryptocurrencies.

Whichever step the eCommerce company takes, however, is sure to mean more mainstream adoption and will be a significant boost for an already resurging crypto market.

It will also mark a straightforward way to spend crypto on eBay with Coinfomania earlier reported the release of a browser plugin that lets users spend crypto on eBay, Amazon and other eCommerce sites.
