LG Electronics India’s ex-marketing head Niladri Datta joins IFB Appliances


KOLKATA: LG Electronics India’s ex-marketing head Niladri Datta has joined home grown appliances maker IFB Appliances as its chief of marketing and strategy.

Datta, who has over 24 years of experience in the white goods industry, was with the Korean giant for around 14 years from 2004 to 2018 in various capacities including head of washing machine business, modern trade head, head of managing director’s task team and the chief marketing officer for two years. An MBA, Datta is credited to make LG’s washing machine business a market leader.

When contacted, Datta confirmed his appointment at IFB. But he declined to share further details on his new role.

IFB, known for its washing machines, microwave ovens and dish washers, have recently ventured into air-conditioner and built-in kitchen. The company’s home appliance division had posted sales of Rs 1808.35 crore in 2017-18 and is profitable, as per regulatory disclosures. IFB’s home appliances sales for the first six months (April-September) of the current fiscal was Rs 1028.78 crore growing by over 8% as compared to same period of FY17.

The white goods sector had seen a churn in last few months. LG India’s erstwhile sales head Sanjeev Agarwal joined Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India as the sales director handling Hitachi’s air-conditioner and refrigerator businesses in the country. Sandeep Tewari, who was director marketing for consumer electronics and home appliances, joined home grown small appliances maker Usha International as president of marketing.

Debt-ladden Videocon’s erstwhile CEO Rajesh Rathi joined Havells Ltd as senior vice president and sales head for the acquired Lloyd brand. TCL India’s regional director Praveen Valecha too joined home grown mobile phone maker Lava International as a director.
