Lord Browne of Madingley, the chairman of Huawei UK and former boss of BP, has urged the UK not to be influenced by the US on Chinese telecoms security threats.
Lord Browne warned of the “science and engineering war between the US and China” and a “strong technological divide”.
“I hope the UK makes its own determination,” he said, “when it is a matter of security each government has to make its own decision.”
Lord Browne’s remarks come as the UK faces fierce US lobbying to ban Huawei equipment from its new 5G mobile network.
