McLaren previews new limited-run LT performance model

McLaren Automotive has confirmed that it will reveal its fifth ‘Longtail’ model, which is likely to be a Spider version of the 600LT, next week.

The British firm will launch the new machine on Wednesday 16 January, although it has not revealed any details aside from a single image showing the extended tail and engine cover.

But with the new model following closely from the 600LT Coupe that was launched at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, it is set to be a Spider variant in the same way the original 675 LT Coupe was followed by a Spider version.

In a release, McLaren said the new car would “meet the exacting McLaren LT philosophy of increased power, reduced weight, optimised aerodynamics, track-focused dynamics and limited availability”. It added the new car would have a production run of just 12 months.

The new model will be the third to be launched under the British firm’s Track25 business plan.

The first of the McLaren LT models was the F1 GTR Longtail racing car from 1997, with the badge revived in 2015 for the limited-run 675LT Coupe.
