More top-level management churn at Flipkart

BENGALURU: Flipkart announced more top-level management changes on Tuesday, with chief financial officer Sriram Venkataraman taking on the additional responsibility of chief operating officer. Basis an email sent to employees by chief executive Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Venkataraman will also be responsible for the company’s marketplace and retail division along with its logistics arm, Ekart. ET has seen a copy of Krishnamurthy’s email.

The latest round of reshuffle also includes the exits of fintech head Ravi Garikipati and chief marketing officer Shoumyan Biswas.

Anil Goteti, head of marketplace at Flipkart, will now lead the company’s marketing division while Flipkart vice-president for product, Ranjith Boyanapalli, will head the company’s fintech business. Boyanapalli will continue to head the company’s charter on payments and customer experience, among others, the email said.

Among other changes, Flipkart vice-president (smartphones and large appliances) Ajay Veer Yadav will assume the leadership of the company’s refurbished platform 2GUD from Goteti in addition to his existing role, while Utkarsh B Flipkart’s principal architect, will take on the role of technology advisor, as part of the CEO’s office.

Ramesh Bafna, who is heading Flipkart’s lifestyle and home business finance, will move to Myntra as head of finance. Myntra CFO Dipanjan Basu had quit the company last month. Krishnamurthy is also shuffling key technology executives at Flipkart and its fashion unit Myntra, as reported first by ET on December 7.

Amar Nagaram, head of consumer shopping experience at Flipkart, is moving to Myntra as head of engineering and product and will report to Myntra-Jabong CEO Ananth Narayanan, while Myntra chief technology officer Jeyandran Venugopal is joining Flipkart as a senior vice-president to head its engineering division.

Nagaram may eventually head Myntra, as Narayanan is expected to leave the company shortly, people privy to the development had previously told ET. Earlier, Flipkart’s mobile category head Ayyappan R was appointed to lead category management at Myntra.

“With our new structure and our incredible talent, I am certain we are a step closer to being a future-ready organisation that allows us to deliver maximum, long-term impact for our customers and stakeholders,” Krishnamurthy told employees in the email.

Last month, Walmart had merged the two fashion businesses of the Flipkart Group — Myntra and Jabong — and within days, Myntra said all Jabong’s functions will be integrated with itself. The combined entity, Walmart had said, would come under the direct control of Krishnamurthy.
