Mothercare’s chairman has taken on a second job.

Clive Whiley, who oversaw restructuring at Stanley Gibbons, the stamps auctioneer, and Camper & Nicholsons, the yacht charter business, took the job at funeral provider Dignity after Peter Hindley left in June.

Dignity, which is facing difficulties partly because fewer people are dying, suspended its dividend in July.

A second appointment for Whiley may raise eyebrows with the ongoing problems at Mothercare.

He was drafted in at the babywear and maternity retailer last year on £480,000 after his predecessor jumped ship.

It has lost 90 per cent of its value since July 2015, and its stock is now priced at just 13.8p, giving a market valuation of £46.2million.
