Muskie Days turns 70 – Park Rapids Enterprise

A small town offered big fun over the weekend.

The Nevic Civic and Commerce hosted the 70th annual Muskie Days, filled with music and family-friendly entertainment.

The Nevis Lions Club served a fish dinner on Friday, July 23, while the Nevis School robotics team demonstrated their technical skills.

Horseshoe and cornhole tournaments satisfied the competitive spirit.

Kids games and inflatables entertained little ones.

A record number of children participated in Saturday morning’s kids fishing tournament – 49 in all. Lindow Surveying & Mapping hosted this annual contest on the Lake Belle Taine fishing pier.

Youthful anglers had 10 minutes to catch the most fish in their age group. Kids were divided into 5- to 6-year-olds, 7- to 9-year-olds and 10- to 12-year-olds. A drawing was held for a guided fishing trip by Jason Durhman.

Jeremy Anderson, another Nevis fishing guide, hosted a casting contest.

The main stage at Shenanigan’s treated listeners to everything from comedians and Ojibwe dancing to blues and funk. Stages by the Nevis Municipal Liquor Store and Iron Horse Bar & Grill featured a variety of musicians as well.

About 25 entrants marched through Nevis for Saturday’s grand parade. State track champion Jade Rypkema was this year’s grand marshal.

On Sunday morning, the Nevis firefighters hosted a pancake breakfast at the Nevis Fire Hall.
