National Restaurant Association gets a new president

NEW DELHI: Anurag Katriar, CEO of deGustibus Hospitality that runs Indigo Deli chain has been appointed the new president of the National Restaurant Association of India. He will be replacing Rahul Singh, CEO of The Beer Café whose tenure has come to an end. Kabir Suri, co-founder of Azure Hospitality that runs Asian chain Mamagoto was appointed vice president.

Since August the body has been actively involved in a ‘Logout’ campaign against food aggregator apps like Zomato and its Gold programme; Swiggy as well as EazyDiner and Dineout. The reason: unsustainable deep discounting that these apps were offering to its customers for chump change.

The campaign led by NRAI said that over a million Indians had access to aggregator led discounts. The movement has led to over 2600 restaurants logging out of apps and not honouring discounts.

India’s organised food service market is estimated to have touched Rs 1,48,353 crore in 2018-19, according to a report by the National Restaurant Association of India.
