Nevis school board has a seat to fill – Park Rapids Enterprise

Isaacson resigned from the board at Monday night’s meeting so he could spend more time with his family and business.

The school board will take applications for the opening from Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 15. Interested individuals will need to submit a letter of interest to supt308@nevis.org and alindow@nevis308.org and must 21 years of age or older, a resident of the Nevis School District for at least 30 days prior to the appointment, and have a passion for helping students to achieve their potential. The appointed individual may also apply to run for school board in the general election.

The Nevis School Board will appoint a replacement to fill Isaacson’s seat until Jan. 1, when the position will be filled by whoever is elected to the seat on Nov. 8. Isaacson’s seat will be on the November ballot, along with seats currently held by Gary Stennes, Ed Becker and chair Andy Lindow. Filing for those seats is open Aug. 2-16.

The board accepted the resignation of bus mechanic Bruce Babler, who has been with the district for over 27 years in various positions.

“His efforts throughout the years have kept our buses on the road and have provided significant cost savings to the district,” superintendent Gregg Parks said..

The board also accepted the resignation of bus driver Jim Hawes, who is retiring

In other business the board:

  • Approved a trip to San Antonio for music students from March 30 to April 3, 2023. Students will do fundraising for the cost of the trip. 
  • Hired Ethan Klimek for summer grounds work at $375 per week. 
  • Called for bread bids and fuel quotes for the 2022-23 school year. 
  • Heard that the district received $59,111 in funding for the Certified Nursing Assistant program and a $39,994 teacher mentoring grant.

The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, July 25 in the school media center, following a listening session with one board member in the cafeteria from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.
