The official OnePlus 7 launch event announcement (OnePlus)

The OnePlus 7 just got a lot more official.

Rumours of the new smartphone have been doing the round for a while but the company itself just announced when the official launch event will take place.

In order to drum up interest for the new gadget, Chinese company OnePlus is holding a string of simultaneous events around the globe. This is where the phone will get its official unveiling(s) and members of the public will get a chance to try out the handset themselves.

Tickets are being sold at OnePlus.com and the company says it’s charging an ‘early bird’ price of £16 until April 25. These events have become increasingly popular and OnePlus says that last year’s London-based one sold out in 10 hours.

The dates and times of the events around the world are:

  • Printworks, London – UK, 4PM BST, May 14
  • Pier 94, New York – US, 11AM EDT, May 14
  • BIEC, Bangalore – India, 8:15PM IST, May 14
  • Yanqi Lake, Beijing – China, 2PM PST, May 16

If you can’t make it along to the event then OnePlus will also be providing a livestream of the reveal on its website as well as through YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

The Chinese smartphone maker has been tempting users away from the bigger brands over the last few years with a string of great gadgets.

This year’s OnePlus 7 is believed to continue the combination of blockbusting specifications with a price several hundred pounds cheaper than the current big-hitters from Apple and Samsung.

It’s expected to use the top Snapdragon 855 processor alongside 8/10GB of RAM. There will likely be a 2560 x 1440 resolution screen around the 6-inches mark with a pop-out camera to avoid any unsightly notches.

We’re also expecting the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack but possibly some advancement in charging speed – which is one of the features OnePlus has always been known for.

Either way, there’s not long to wait. If the company is unveiling it on May 14 then the on-sale date will likely be only a couple of weeks after that.
