A doctor’s surgery in Earl Shilton has been praised by its patients for the quality of the service it provides, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.
Patient Jo Haddow commended on Facebook the work of Heath Lane Surgery, in particular the service provided by Dr Richard Lawrence, describing him as “nothing less than a legend”.
More than 150 people responded in agreement, with many saying the centre as a whole provided excellent care.
One wrote: “He has time for each patient, never feel rushed by him and he is very thorough.
“I had a phone call from him the other day and he referred me to somewhere else and asked me to call back to let him know how I got on.”
Another patient said that Dr Lawrence had been a great help during her husband’s final months, living with Parkinson’s.
Another commenter had some kind words for the GP practice as a whole.
She said: “The surgery is brilliant in general, all through lockdown I was always able to have an appointment and see a doctor face to face if I wanted.”
Dr Lawrence was humbled to receive the praise, saying that everyone at the surgery worked hard to ensure they provided a quality service, and that the group was like “a big family”.
He said: “When I started here 10 years ago, I was told you must always put the patients’ needs first, and look after the community, which I have always tried to do.
“But the team have the same ethos.”
He added: “I try to model myself on an old-fashioned physician, when you’re part of the community and you know the patients.”
Heath Lane Surgery was the first GP practice in the East Midlands to run a Covid-19 vaccination hub. The team has now run more than 100 of the clinics.
Dr Lawrence also works as a call-out doctor for the 111 service at weekends, with his area covering all of Leicestershire and as far away as Naseby in Northamptonshire.
The 39-year-old joined the practice in 2011 and later became a partner.
He is originally from Coalville, where his dad worked as a GP, and he trained in medicine in Sheffield.
He now lives in Market Bosworth with his wife and three children, and his wife works as a consultant psychiatrist at Glenfield Hospital.
Ms Haddow thanked everyone for their comments and said she would be putting them into a thank you card to send to Dr Lawrence.
